Our Bilingual Instructional Program
Our Bilingual Instructional Program is designed to provide Spanish speaking students an instructional program that fosters a sense of belonging by honoring their home language and cultures. It supports the learning of both grade level content knowledge and English. Research shows that students new to the country or new to the English language acquire English more quickly and perform at higher levels academically when given an instructional foundation in their primary language in addition to specific, targeted instruction in the English language.
Redwood City School District (RCSD) follows state required academic standards for all students in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and English Language Development. Our program ensures that all students are prepared for college, ready for meaningful careers, and able to advocate for themselves and their families in both Spanish and English. The district has a systematic assessment program that is aligned with the curriculum standards and regularly monitors student progress. In addition, the Redwood City School District Board of Trustees has defined quantifiable goals for student progress toward the standards. Progress toward the goals and objectives are evaluated yearly for their effectiveness in improving student learning and student achievement.
